The Wild Timber Co. journey began with humble roots in a little garage in the booming Dallas, TX suburb of Frisco. With a small idea, a big surprise, and a whole lotta love, Tanya and Bryan Runyan (that’s us!) created Wild Timber Co. to fill the need for thoughtful, high-quality, stunning products that both mommy and baby (and daddy!) can appreciate.
Dreamers and makers at heart, we genuinely enjoy the process of working together to bring an idea to life, whether it be through graphic design, woodworking or fabrication. However, our demanding day jobs and two active kiddos meant that many of our DIY dreams had to be shelved over the years. But of course, the children grew into teenagers – as we were warned they would – and in late 2017, we were beginning to prepare for the bittersweet next chapter of our lives as empty nesters. Now, if anyone tells you that life gets boring when your kids grow up and move out, let me tell you otherwise…
We were both in our 40’s, our son was had already left home, and our daughter was nearing her high school graduation, so imagine our shock when we found out that baby #3 was on the way! Along with the surprise came joy, fear, uncertainty, excitement, and, of course, more love. After wrapping our heads around this completely unexpected blessing, we looked at each other and realized we had better start getting things ready! After all, it had been 18 years since we raised a baby!
As soon as we started planning the nursery, I knew I had my work cut out for me. Not only was I completely out of the loop when it came to the latest, trendiest, and safest baby gear, but I was also not entirely thrilled about bringing a boatload of colorful plastic eyesores into the house that I had finally “adultified” after all these years. More than just worrying about aesthetics, though, we wanted to make sure we curated a meaningful environment to help our newest little cub learn, grow, and develop.
So, we did what all new parents do…we Googled! The information and selection was overwhelming, but there still seemed to be a glaring shortage of simple, beautiful, Montessori-inspired toys and décor that were locally made, affordable, and readily available. And that’s when we knew.
Almost immediately, we began designing and creating unique pieces for our own home and family. When our forever baby was born in July 2018, we continued to craft functional toys, wooden teethers, and other playthings that would meet both his needs and ours, and the response from friends and family was overwhelming.
Finally, we took a leap of faith and launched Run Wild Little One to help parents like us. Again, we were taken aback by the support and gratitude we received. It turns out that we weren’t the only ones desperate to find products that were well made, stylish, and developmentally appropriate. The time since then has been a wild and wonderful blur as we have grown by leaps and bounds, expanded our product lines, and launched customizable gift items, including our best-selling wooden signs and name puzzles.
In June 2020, we rebranded to Wild Timber Co. and are proud to continue to offer a wide range of locally made, handcrafted wooden toys and home décor, including Pikler, Montessori, and Waldorf-inspired climbing equipment and our signature line of Heartwood Collection™ toys that can take your child from infancy through toddlerhood – and beyond. We hope you’ll take a look around and find something you love.
From our home and family to yours, thank you for being a part of our story!
